Flying in and out of Guyana

Coming from my involuntary, airline-imposed layover in Trinidad & Tobago, I flew in with heavy rain clouds. The day after my arrival in Georgetown was pretty much a loss. It rained most of the day. The way out was a little better and took me to another airline-imposed layover in Curacao. This one at least long enough to actually leave the airport and take a few pictures.

That's what the rainy season looks like from the air, beautiful and dangerous

A talented photographer friend of mine, Ardath Winterowd (she's on Flickr), took another cloud picture of mine from that flight and turned it into an enchanting B&W image.

From the north of Brazil to French Guiana to Suriname to Guyana, this is what you see

Disrupted here and there by the occasional river

Georgetown, in some fashion, stretches along the river from city to airport, about 40 km away

At the airport I piled into a local (mini) bus that takes you into town for $2.50 instead of $20-25 for a taxi. I tried hard to not inconvenience my neighbor, squeezing next to her with my two packs.
